MEMORANDUM REGARDING THE USUAL TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Emoluments.

AND SERVICE OF SURVEYORS IN THE HONG KONG

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.

Surveyors are appointed on a three years' agreement

at a salary of £400 for the 1st, £420 for the 2nd and

£440 for the 3rd year. Under the compensation scheme

at present in force these sums are paid in dollars at a rate which varies slightly with the rate of exchange

in accordance with the following scales:-

When exchange is at or over 4s. and below 4s.4d.

When exchange is at or over 3s.8d. and below 4s.

$10.60

When exchange is at or over 38.4d. and below 38.8d.

$10.90

When exchange is at or over 3s.and below 3s.4d.

$11.20

When exchange is at or over 28.8d. and below 3s.

$11.50

When exchange is over 2s. 6d. and below 2$.8d.

$11.80

When exchange is at or below 2s. 6d.

$12.00

N.B. The current rate of exchange in Hong Kong can be

found in the chief daily papers.

A monthly deduction of 4% is made as a

contribution towards Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.

A Surveyor whose services during his initial three years' agreement have been completely satisfactory will, subject to the exigencies of the Service and to a certificate of medical fitness, on the expiration of that period be placed on the permanent and pensionable

establishment, his service under agreement being

reckoned as continuous for leave and pension.

When
